Aurora Mental Health Center holds 3rd Annual Hero Day

Aurora, CO, June 18, 2008- Aurora Mental Health Center will be holding it’s 3rd Annual “Hero Day”; an event that has been successful in connecting children with the agencies that serve our community. The free event will include representatives, equipment, displays, and demonstrations from the Aurora Fire Department, Aurora Police Department, Rural Metro Ambulance, and United States Armed Services. The event will take place at the Aurora Mental Health’s Family and Children Center at 10782 East Alameda, at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008.

The hope is that contact with the local “Heroes” in our community will impact the children’s development in a positive manner. By providing an opportunity for children to meet with role models in the community, they will be more likely to view these individuals as a source of support while they establish a healthy pattern of recreation and leisure activities.

Last years event included participation from the Aurora Fire and Police Departments, the Colorado National Guard, United States Marine Corps, Rural Metro Ambulance, Aurora Parks and Recreation representatives, and registered nurses. Over 100 children from the community attended last year and enjoyed demonstrations with police cruisers, fire trucks, and played with equipment from the Colorado National Guard.

This event gives children the opportunity to interact with our local “Heroes” and get to know them in a positive light. The hope is that this event will influence future contact with public service groups, and impact children’s believe systems about vocational possibilities and ways to contribute to one’s community.
