Children, Adolescent, & Family Services: Functional Family Therapy

Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is an intensive, proven form of therapy for families with at-risk children ages 13 to 18.

We work on issues within the family such as:

  • conflict,
  • school problems,
  • drug and alcohol issues,
  • oppositional and defiant behaviors,
  • family communication problems,
  • juvenile justice involvement,
  • and many other challenging behaviors.

This highly successful therapy program can lessen the intense negativity, hopelessness and blaming that families often experience when their child is in crisis.  FFT can take place in our Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Clinic or in the home when needed.  We place a strong emphasis on partnering with each family.

Functional Family Therapy is a well-documented and highly successful therapy.  Data from numerous outcome studies suggest that FFT can reduce recidivism among youth involved with the justice system by 25 to 60 percent.  FFT is appropriate for a wide range of youth problems common to young people and for various multi-ethnic, multicultural families.  While our professional team primarily serves youth aged 13 to 18, younger siblings of referred adolescents often benefit as well.
