What To Expect When You Call For The First Time

We understand calling and explaining your situation may be scary.  Keep in mind that helping you is our number one priority.

Your initial call with one of our supportive staff will direct you to a professional counselor who is well trained to help with any mental health needs you may have.  Our experts will gather the information they need to assess the situation and do what they can to help immediately.  The severity of your need will guide the counselor in helping you arrange the services you need and to schedule an appointment for your first orientation session.

Calling about yourself?
You will be welcomed by one of our counselors and asked a series of questions to determine how we can best help you.

Questions may include: Tell me what prompted you to call today?
How long has this been going on?
Have you ever had treatment for this before?
  Was the treatment helpful?

Calling about a loved one or friend?
We cannot require anyone to receive treatment.  What we can do is talk you through a conversation that may help your loved one or friend call Aurora Mental Health Center for treatment.

Questions may include: What have you observed about your spouse or family member that you are worried about?
Do you know why he/she is hesitant to call us directly?

Parents and legal guardians have the authority to schedule an appointment for their child in order to get the necessary support.

Calling after-hours?
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but our 24-hour emergency services employs quality counselors who respond to calls 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  The severity of the need will determine the actions taken or recommendations made.
