Aurora Mental Health Center is committed to creating healthy and secure communities by providing the least restrictive service that ensures quality, appropriate, and efficient care.
In the late 1960s, Ellin Mrachek, AuMHC’s founder, was driving through an Aurora neighborhood when a young girl playing alone in the street caused her to stop her car. After some investigation, Ellin found out that the girl was alone because her mother needed mental health services – all of which were located far from their home. This chance encounter sparked a drive to open a community mental health center in Aurora. In 1975, our Center, albeit small at the time, was opened.
Over a period of time spanning more than 40 years, Aurora Mental Health Center has grown and transformed into a full-service community mental health center. Our highly qualified therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers provide individual, group, and family counseling, as well as consultation and educational services that focus on prevention and wellness.
Though we’ve grown, the drive that helped Ellin create the Center is still with us. Everyone at Aurora Mental Health Center – from the Board of Directors to staff members – challenges and dedicates themselves to help build a better future for the people we serve.
